What side should a heat sink be placed on? Top or bottom?

Hello, For this module, the heat sink should be mounted on the bottom / base side of the amplifier, meaning the flat side intended to sit against a metal surface or heat sink. The top side with the components should be left unobstructed. We also recommend using thermal paste or a thermal pad between the module and the heat sink for better heat transfer, especially for longer operation, as this amplifier does require external heat dissipation.

I wish to amplify a the (50mw) rf output of a 740mhz sennheiser audio transmitter to a passive antenna to cover a wider area . Will this work?

Thank you for your question. Technically, this amplifier does operate at 740 MHz and provides up to ~37 dB gain, so it can amplify a 50 mW (≈17 dBm) RF signal to a higher power level. However, there are two very important limitations to consider: Input power limit This module has a maximum input level of 12 dBm. Your transmitter output is about 17 dBm, which exceeds the safe input rating and could damage the amplifier unless you add an attenuator pad at the input. Usage regulations Sennheiser wireless audio systems operate in licensed spectrum in most countries. Amplifying the RF output to 2 W would almost certainly violate regional radio transmission regulations, especially for wireless microphone equipment. This can interfere with licensed services. So while it is electrically possible with proper attenuation and impedance-matched installation, we cannot recommend using this amplifier for that purpose due to the regulatory and safety risks. If your goal is to increase coverage, a more suitable and legal solution is usually: A properly-tuned external antenna, with correct placement and coax type Ensuring the transmitter is operating at the maximum power allowed in your region Using antenna distribution or active antennas designed for wireless audio systems
